Confirmed from Bald Eagle State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Bald Eagle State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (2,841 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 10 mentions

“The bathhouse on the Sycamore loop was really clean and had a dish washing station (not open yet, it's just the beginning of the season).”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 12 mentions

“The park is beautiful this time of year, with flowering redbuds, dogwoods and wildflowers and the smell of honeysuckle.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

We spent a pleasant midweek stay in site 7 during the last week of April. The CG was nearly deserted and park staff was hard at work getting ready for the camping season. Our full hookup paved site was mostly level. Sites at the CG are roomy and comfortably spaced.

★★★★★ — Angela , May 2024

Modern camping is in good shape with one section of full hookup sites being brand new. Hiking trails are mostly mowed paths that are easy to follow with a few wooded sections. The trails on the other side of the highway from the park office were not maintained and un-hikable during our visit.

Bald Eagle State Park Howard ,Pennsylvania. I had no idea how beautiful north central Pennsylvania is ,it is amazing! Tennessee and Georgia state parks have the bar for state parks really high , but Pennsylvania has not disappointed !

★★★★★ — Randy , Aug 2025

We stayed at the Letterman campground and really enjoyed it. Even through the day long deluge. The bathhouse on the Sycamore loop was really clean and had a dish washing station (not open yet, it's just the beginning of the season). Sites were clean and decently level.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Bald Eagle State Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
