Confirmed from James Cleveland Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about James Cleveland Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (22 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“I found a yellow trail on the way up is not clearly marked along some portions.”

Sturdy boots, walking stick, water and bug spray are essential items. I found a yellow trail on the way up is not clearly marked along some portions. A blue trail on the other side is horribly identified, if it’s even part of the Scout trail. This is not for the casual walker.

This trail is amazing in October. Make sure you are wearing GOOD hiking boots! Lots of rocks, boulders, roots and up and down hiking that can be slippery. Super quiet with sparse to no crowds.

★★★★★ — Jack , Apr 2022

Jimmy Cleveland trail is a trail that goes to an airplane wreckage of a u.s. mail carrier heading to Bellefonte who didn't make it over the mountain.

★★★★★ — David , Jul 2023

(from the scary south approach) Great open woods hike from the south with very nice stone arm chair view over some farms and the valley beyond where you began (look for it).

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
