Confirmed from Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Protected wetland habitat with on-site parking & wildlife-viewing opportunities.
What runners say about Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation
“Absolutely gorgeous trail and easily accessible for all.”
“A great place to go for a run or hike with the whole family.”
“Decent amount of shade, lots of covered benches to relax and enjoy the view (we like to eat takeout food there as an ad hoc picnic).”
“Easy hike with the perfect nature center / welcome area.”
Peaceful (if you can ignore the freeway noise on the West end) place to get into nature and experience what the coastal environment looked like pre-development (if you squint and ignore the signs of development everywhere). Birders are in for a feast of shore birds and raptors.
Very nice trails for walking and running. It is pet friendly as long as your pet is on a leash. Unfortunately, especially for me, biking is not allowed. But I would still recomend it. There are tons for birds and wild life. As well as an online tour for people who want to learn more about the geography and history.
Most pleasant hike of the 66 miles of official trails in Carlsbad. Decent amount of shade, lots of covered benches to relax and enjoy the view (we like to eat takeout food there as an ad hoc picnic). Bikes are verboten. Lots of dogs, keep yours on a leash, please.
Beautiful easy trail around a preserve. Dogs are allowed, but on a leash. Great for all ages. Lists of places to rest and enjoy the scenery. Snake sittings on the trail be careful on surroundings along the trail.
