Confirmed from Beaver Ponds Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Beaver Ponds Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (27 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Near the top of the trail, where it connects to the continental divide trail, there is a beautiful meadow and wooden bridge.”

The trail head is easy to find, but it would be wise to have the trail head loaded into your mapping software before you drive into the Thompson Park area, because cell service is minimal and spotty at best.

This trailhead is on MT2 which is a short scenic drive from I90 in Whitehall back to I90 in Butte. Easy enough to stop while traveling if you want a quick hike near the CDT. It's 4 miles from the trailhead to the CDT.

★★★★★ — K , Mar 2022

It was a little cluttered with fallen trees, the trail was clear and well used, and the vistas were clear and very stunning. Really a great day hike.

★★★★☆ — Zachariah , May 2021

Beautiful mountains and forest! Great, rugged hike with a well defined trail. It is dog friendly.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
