Confirmed from Black Oak Ridge Conservation Easement's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Black Oak Ridge Conservation Easement

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (18 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Jan 12 Sunday. This was the first snow of this season in Oak Ridge. Hiking here in the pristine snow is a completely new experience. Have hiked this trail network several times. Covered 9 miles in 3 hours. Most of the trail is on gravel, two connections on dirt. Met no hikers but a group of mountain bikers.

★★★★★ — Craig , Jan 2025

Decent stop to fill an overflowing coolant system due to blown head gasket. Will return one day to actually hike and check it out.

★★★★★ — Jonathan , Dec 2025

I was there... Good, well groomed trails/roads. North track is the shady part.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
