Confirmed from North Bank Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Riverfront park featuring trails, pedestrian bridges and scenic views.
What runners say about North Bank Trail
“Really beautiful trail, highly recommend”
Challenging trail run especially if it’s raining be very careful of your footing.
Just biked from Oregon Hill trail head to Texas Beach Parking lot. First time going, and if you're biking, it's no joke. I was on my Merida Crossway300 hybrid with 40cc tires. It was barely enough to get through some of the areas. Multiple sections I walked due to steep incline with path being only large, jagged rocks.
This is the best hiking area among the 11 miles of the James River hikes. I love how the trails all connect. Texas beach is just off North Bank Trail, but can be hard to find. From the parking area, hike down and cross the railroad tracks using the bridge and stairs. Then follow the river west using the trail.
This is an amazing hiking trail - a real hike as opposed to a stroll, but with wonderfully maintained trail that wanders through several different looking sections. We have not done the entire route, but we take it from the Texas Beach parking lot to the Oregon Hill lookout and then turn around.
