Confirmed from Forest Hill Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Forest Hill Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,578 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“There's a beautiful little pond and most of the path to/around it is paved, and several picnic shelters up by the parking lot.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Great new playground, lots of shaded areas including places for parents to sit.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It's such a peaceful place to spend a Saturday.”

This is a great hidden gem of a park. When you get to the parking lot you have to look for the paved trail. Follow that and it brings you out to a pond with atleast a half mile trail around it. It is really nice.

Gorgeous park. I was visiting Richmond and this was on one of the attractions list and it makes total sense. It’s huge and there are so many areas to walk, sit around, take pictures, run, work out, see nature, or there were a couple of people rock climbing.

Lovely place. So serene and beautiful. Make sure to wear a mask where it can be difficult to social distance in certain areas of the walking trial. The park is well maintained. I didn’t see a bathroom and I know covid took the bathrooms but hopefully on the future there will be a bathroom.

There's not many challenging trails in the metro area, in my opinion. If you're looking for a good hour hike, try out this scenic circuit on the South Side. Park in the Reedy Creek Landing lot and take the bridge, and go across the street. Take the trail to the left up the hill.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Forest Hill Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
