Confirmed from Calabasas Peak Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Calabasas Peak Trailhead
“Lots of interesting birds and great views.”
One of the best hikes I did while in LA. Stunning views the entire way. Steady incline, so be prepared to sweat. The top has incredible views of the hills and homes on them. Took about an hour and a half total.
This is a wonderful dirt road that starts off as a trail, with many trails at meander along the road. This is an excellent place to hike. To access the trail you should park on Old Topanga Canyon Rd. Once you park, you can walk along the paved path to the trailhead which is marked with signs (picture attached).
Nice easy hike, great views of the area. Very little shade on the hike. Out and back trail.
Well worth the hike to the peak. Not too much elevation change, and a decent dirt trail. The wildflowers were blooming the whole way up and the smell was amazing. Lots of interesting birds and great views. Plan for 2ish hours out and back depending on how fast you walk.

“The road is rough, rocky, sandy and steep at times, so be careful you wear proper shoes and don't roll your ankle.”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
