Confirmed from Calabasas Peak Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area with kid-friendly options and plenty of coyote droppings.
What runners say about Calabasas Peak Trailhead
“Great cardiovascular workout on a pleasant day, but avoid it when hot as it’s all uphill and mostly exposed with minimal shade.”
Nice walking park, not just a dog park. Also, easy access to Kobe Bryant’s Memorial site. Easy to get to, just park at the Dog park. There's a trail that leads up the mountain. The walk is all uphill. Memorial site approx 1.2miles up the hill. From there you can continue another 2.2mi or take the longer 7mi trail.
Great cardiovascular workout on a pleasant day, but avoid it when hot as it’s all uphill and mostly exposed with minimal shade. There’s also 3 different trailheads to Peak so choose wisely. Stunt Rd is probably the best bet but also accessible from Red Rock Canyon.
Regular route seems pretty straightforward, if by chance you ever wonder about climbing up the rock formations far left, shown on map, don’t do it. It’s ridiculously stupid and possible injury or death. We just couldn’t resist. The middle section is much better and easy. It will connect back to main fire road.
Great for road trail with amazing views. About 1100ish get off elevation change over 1.75 miles. During the summer months I would recommend getting there early to beat the heat.
Trail conditions & character
“After what looks like the final point of the trail, you have to hike another ~50 yds to the summit which is steep and rugged - carry good hiking shoes.”
“Great incline trail, two track, great views, good place to enjoy nature in the LA area.”
“Nice hike for someone with minimal experience, and my dog loved the trail too”
“Great cardiovascular workout on a pleasant day, but avoid it when hot as it’s all uphill and mostly exposed with minimal shade.”
