Confirmed from Canal Street Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with playgrounds, ball fields, a basketball court and other sports facilities.
What runners say about Canal Street Park
“Great place for running and bike riding, clean and quiet and sorrounded by the river.”
“Great place for running and bike riding, clean and quiet and sorrounded by the river.”
My favorite park in the area. It had a long stretch of paved walkway. This makes it easy to bike or run on. The lights are on after it gets dark that makes it perfect for late strolls to walk the dog. There are plenty of benches. It's right next to the river that you can also walk down to and tube in.
Always enjoy going here with my family. Unfortunately, on this day, the river was so high that it was up to the walking trail and the current was very strong. No swimming for my family. There was someone fishing right at the entrance to the river. Yes he caught 2 trout fish, 1 eel and 1 snake.
It is a nice place to walk with the one mile+ long path. The route takes you along the Lehigh River, which you can glimpse between the trees. The local athletic association maintains ball fields, and there is ample parking at both ends of the park, and near the fields.
The path was okay. It would have been nice if you could see the water but the weeds blocked your view. There was a pathway from the road to the gazebo but not from the path to the gazebo which seemed kind of strange. I just get a funky feeling down there I wouldn't want to be there at dusk by myself.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
