Confirmed from Cape Arago State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Cape Arago State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,626 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Despite the rainy weather and sea breeze, we enjoyed a beautiful hike along the trails and tried to observe the wildlife and the natural forest.”

This is a pretty awesome State Park. There's a variety of areas that you can actually visit. The State Park itself is where the beach is at and it has a variety of picnic tables as well as fire pits even and a restroom.

Stopped here for a quick visit so I wasn't able to go checkout the hiking trails. Parking is available going to the viewpoint. Absolutely beautiful views! However, give yourself some time because this is not a quick stop-by if you're using US-101!

★★★★★ — Lennon , Aug 2024

Beautiful ocean views. Hiking trails are well maintained and paved in some areas. There are several locations of benches where you can have a meal and enjoy the views. It was easy to pay for parking and drive between spots to get different views of the cliff and rock formations.

I had a great time hiking and laying out on the beaches. Amazing sites, including the sea lions. They can be loud, so be aware. If bringing a dog or young children, be aware the trails are a bit risky close to the beach. There are also unguarded drop-offs at various view points.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
