Confirmed from Sunset Bay to Cape Arago Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Area for hiking with views of the Pacific Ocean, including a beach.
What runners say about Sunset Bay to Cape Arago Trail
“There's a big open picnic area at the top of it with great views of the ocean.”
This trail offered the best viewpoint of Qochyax Island, Gregory Point and Cape Argo lighthouse that I could find. It is a pretty flat trail that hugged the coast line so the views where great. At some points side trails lead to beach access, but many looked challenging.
The trailhead wasn’t marked. From this point on the map take the western most bridge across the creek and follow the trail until you see a trail heading up the hill in the left. At the top you can follow a trail to the point at the top of the headland. There is a nice bench there.
These are strange times. Take a hike. Love this place so much. Highly recommend any time of year. Hiking boots not required but helpful and layers absolutely necessary.
It's a nice beach, sand for the littles, jumping rocks against the mountain to get further out is enough to keep the teens entertained. There's also a hiking trail up the mountain I think it's supposed to lead to another beach but you've gotta wear long sleeves and a hat because it's a jungle up there.
Trail conditions & character
“It's Oregon, so it's a good bet if it's not during summertime you'll likely have overcast weather, but the views still will take your beath.”
“on the west side, multiple parking spots, but they require a parking pass,or they will give you a warning, get the pass at the sunset campground ground any day till 7:00 pm”
“the first one goes up 1 mile and dead ends, and is fairly flat walk with very minimal inclines.”
