Confirmed from Yoakam Point State Natural Site's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Open 24hScenic

State recreation area featuring forest trails leading to a beach with tide pools and a lighthouse.

What runners say about Yoakam Point State Natural Site

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (162 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Getting out amongst the beautiful trees overlooking the ocean never fails to breathe life back into me.”

This was the surprise of my trip to Cape Arago. A great view of the lighthouse from the Northern side. At the start my goal was to get to a finger of the Yoakam Point and photograph the lighthouse and a heart shaped hole in Gregory point. There is no easy access to the lighthouse that I could find.

Simply the most captivating coastal view I've ever seen. The rock formations are absolutely unique to my experience. ---And the trails lead through a veritable Hobbit landscape that made me feel as though I was hundreds of miles from civilization. But PLEASE...do not let the young ones get ahead.

★★★★★ — Tim , Mar 2022

Getting out amongst the beautiful trees overlooking the ocean never fails to breathe life back into me. Depending on your time frame there are many gems to discover. Though you may bump into a surfer or two you will feel like you have the beaches and trails to yourself.

Walking out to the point looks like another planet. The rocks eroding away expose interesting formations and little tidal pools hold tons of anemones! Beautiful hike, watch the waves, they can be big!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
