Confirmed from Carol H Sweet Nature Center's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Interpretive center for Mentor Marsh, offering weekly guided family hikes & summer camps.
What runners say about Carol H Sweet Nature Center
“Natural marshland, loads of wildlife, a beautiful beach, although a little rocky but better bring your bug repellent, we went at twilight and mosquitos were thick as gnats.”
If you happen to get lost in a backwoods area of Lake County known as Mentor on the Lake, you might want to check out this not so lovely swath of swampy land, which apparently is a "nature preserve". While you may not catch a glimpse of Swamp Thing get bitten by a gator, you might enjoy a nice walk on a hot summer day!
Wonderful park but seems they haven't gone through in a while and cleared paths
Good resource to check out what's going on in the Headlands Marsh. With trails and paths to follow, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature and get a little exercise- hiking or walking, running, exploring with little ones. Great for photographers and birding too. SO. MANY. BIRDS!
There is an overlook to the marsh near the nature center that was nice, we sat and had lunch there. The girl at the nature center was very knowledgeable and informative. The boardwalk that goes out into the marsh is a gem

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
