Confirmed from Castalia Quarry's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Castalia Quarry

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (544 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“An absolutely beautiful place to hike.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“The open quarry views, rugged terrain, and expansive sky make this spot feel both wild and serene.”

This is a very interesting place to go for a walk. There are a handful of trails where most are easy. The rim trail is considered moderate. I went to this quarry to train for backpacking. There was only a little bit of gain, but in this area of Ohio it's the most you'll get.

Whenever I travel to the area with my pup this is a must. There is so much to explore. You can come over the course of a few days and take a different path every time. It is nice and quiet and never overly packed.

Trails on both sides of the highway! The quarry side is by far more enjoyable. This is a fairly popular trail, so expect to see a handful of people along your route.

Absolutely gorgeous! Went there on a rainy day and had the whole park to myself. Really feels like you stepped through a portal to another place. The "Thought Stone" trail was another wonderful highlight. Such a serene little walk. Will be returning again for years to come!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 11 mentions

“Nice views from the outside going around the gravel and the inside of it.”
