Confirmed from Challen Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Challen Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (353 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Although this trail is not long it's still lots of fun to climb and play on the rocks and feel the breeze while you look at the beautiful view of Riverside.”

If you “hike” all the way to the top you get really great views of the city! Great little walk-ways, perfect for cardio! It’s public, side-street parking and parking lot availability.

★★★★★ — Adan , Jul 2022

There’s seating at the bottom or if you’re up for a bit of walking you can hike to the top and look over the city of Riverside. It’s fun to take binoculars up there and look around the city or a telescope and look at the stars in the evening.

★★★★☆ — Elysia , Oct 2025

Challen Park is a hotspot for people that want to exercise quickly. It makes for a great cardio workout with its uphill slopes. Its also a great place to take a quick hike, reaching its top you get some pretty awesome views of Riverside.

★★★★☆ — Cristina , Jul 2018

Beautiful scenic view overlooking parts of Riverside. It gets cleaned routinely with minimal debris on the ground. Dog friendly and has the appropriate disposal bins. Excellent place to walk, exercise, etc. Easy hike

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
