Confirmed from Chimney Rock Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Chimney Rock Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (67 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“The end of the trail gives you great views of the surrounding mountains, and the canyon below.”

Attempted this trail yesterday 7/9/18, but got a late start at 1pm since I had just finished lookout mountain trail in the ochoco national forest. It was 90 degrees when I got there. This trail is moderate to hard. In the beginning of the trail it is very narrow with steep drop offs.

About 2 miles out and back. Not too difficult lots of rocks on the trail. Amazing views!

★★★★★ — Crystal , Oct 2020

Fun little hike! Very uphill, so be prepared. Great views up top, though.

★★★★★ — Mae , Oct 2021

I started my hike up the steep and uneven trail for the great views of the Crooked River Canyon. The rocky dirt trail climbs about five hundred feet to the base of Chimney Rock through sagebrush and very old Juniper Trees. It can be difficult at times to find the trail, but keep climbing toward the summit.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
