Confirmed from Comite River Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring hiking and mountain bike trails.
What runners say about Comite River Conservation Area
“Beautiful park to hike if you like a moderate trail.”
“The trails are mostly well marked except at a few spots where trails meet and there was no good direction to follow.”
I grew up playing in the woods, and I've always loved it. This place has a nice set of trails cut I to it that'll satisfy bike riders and hikers alike. Varying terrain and access to the comite river in several places, but still very wild looking and full of nature. We didn't see any wildlife, but it's not far away.
Love this trail! I run it and know it by heart now. If you're new to the trail, definitely take a picture of the map to help orient you along your trek. Be on the lookout for bikers- they can come up on you quick, but most are cautious. You will also see & hear lots of wildlife!
Actually meant for bikers. Entrance is actually on the other side of the Comite River than Google maps shows. Great place to bring your pups, just make sure to hike in the opposite direction of the bikers. There are some "shortcut" trails, and I used those to make my own loop and stop by the beach with my dog.
Yes I brought my single speed State Redwood out to ride these trails. No I didn’t make it far before I had to turn around and head back. It was an awesome little ride pushing my skinny tires around the roots and some rock.
Trail conditions & character
“The trails are pet friendly though they don't have any waste bins on the trail so you have to carry your dog's potty back to the trail head to dispose.”
“There were many times where i had to look from the bmx point of view bc a lot of the signs are for there pov.”
“The trails are mostly well marked except at a few spots where trails meet and there was no good direction to follow.”
“It was an awesome little ride pushing my skinny tires around the roots and some rock.”
“There are small, but steep hills and ravines.”
“Restroom facilities are generally kept reasonably provisioned and cleaned.”
Plan your run at Comite River Conservation Area
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
