Confirmed from Hooper Road Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Relaxed park that features a playground, nature trails for hiking and biking, and a swamp setting.

Great LA swampland woods in the middle of the city. The trail markings and maps are a little confusing, but eventually the trails all lead back to the trailhead :) mosdef a nice place to hike or bike if you need some mama nature in your day :)

Fantastic trail, although fairly challenging to bike. Markers 5-9 were covered with roots and sections of the trail were eroded. Certainly left me quite sore the next morning.

★★★★★ — David , Feb 2017

Lovely hiking trail used also as a biking path. Trail was a little muddy due to recent rain but generally well maintained. Quiet on a Saturday morning. Beautiful forest walk, mostly covered by canopy. Recommend bug spray

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
