Confirmed from Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Beautiful views combining a woodsy and swampy environment.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“The trails are really pretty and peaceful, with lots of trees and nature all around.”

Favorite place to hike in Columbia. Unique ecosystem full of wildlife just across river from city. Alligators, snakes, deer, otters, and birds of prey seen on a regular basis, especially if you know where to look.

Very neat hike. It’s a 3 mile loop (at least the trail we followed). Not paved, some uneven surfaces. It felt like we were in the middle of a national forest with the convenience of being five minutes from home. We took our dog and she loved it too!

★★★★★ — Chelsea , Feb 2022

This is an absolutely beautiful trail. We saw deer and a pileated woodpecker. I'd recommend wearing good waterproof shoes after a rain because the trail can get muddy and there are exposed roots.

We love it here! Great birding and hiking. The section through the swamp is usually very wet and has recently been partially underwater (and today completely underwater and impassable), so wear appropriate shoes if you do the full loop. There’s a shortcut that avoids the swamp too.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🔁 Loop trail 8 mentions

“The longer loop is impassable due to flooding but you can do a shorter loop by using the shortcut trail which is marked.”
