Confirmed from Elk Mountain Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Elk Mountain Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (193 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“Awesome trail… moderate to difficult because of rocky trail… great views from top… little muddy in some patches because of rain but thats nothing.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The trail was pretty easy to follow, however, I did lose the trail on the way down simply because I wasn’t paying attention.”

Loved the Charon Garden Trail hike! It was rated Hard and for good reason. Not a hike for the family, definitely need experience in hiking and conserving energy to get through the full trail down and back. In total it took about 3 hours with stops at the postage falls, and treasure lake.

This is a very popular trail in the park, parking was full so had to park my car further, this is a moderate trail and it’s not very long, at few points it was challenging. Best park about it is the view and the abundance of nature and beauty you experience. I highly recommend it

Elk Mounika Trail…!!!One of the best hikes In Oklahoma Elk Mountain is one of the tallest granite peaks in the beautiful Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Its summit is at 2,270 feet, and the Elk Mountain Trail allows hikers to be able to view the Charon Garden Wilderness and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife

The trail was so beautiful that I can’t even describe. There were huge rocks on the top and so many wildflowers. Felt like I’m on the different side and the view was amazing.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 24 mentions

“The views are amazing the woods are refreshingly good enjoyed the shade saw plenty of wildlife had a wonderful time here had bathrooms and picnic tables”
