Flandrau State Park is a quiet spot right in New Ulm that feels like you're far from town. The hiking trails are short but scenic, with wooded paths and some nice overlooks. The sand-bottom swimming pond is clean and great for cooling off in summer.
What a nice campground. We really enjoyed our stay. If you're looking for a peaceful quiet campground this may not be it. At least for us it wasn't. It was a weekend filled with screaming, hollering, crying children and barking dogs.
This is a small but well kept park. It has a man made swim hole but the water was very low due to the drought. And nobody was in it. The hiking paths are lovely there's many to take but they're not very clearly marked. I suggest you get a map at the service center to help you find your way.
Great state park! The camping during the week was quiet and pleasant. Fire rings seemed rather new and bathrooms were consistently cleaned. Pool was nice but the "sand" was more like gravel and not friendly. Probably because someone wanted to save a few bucks by not bringing in real sand.
