Confirmed from Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
U.S Civil War battlefield, with trails, historic buildings, a cemetery & living history events.
What runners say about Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park
“The physical facility is well maintained and the staff very friendly and helpful.”
“The Confederate right flank where the Union forces broke through is especially interesting and beautiful.”
Beautifully done. There are a lot of interactive learning mediums in the visitor center and quality gifts in the shop. As heart wrenching as it was to walk through this respectful park, it was also a great opportunity to learn as well as pay respect to fallen soldiers.
Unless you take the tour, there really is not much to see on the self-paced tour; however, there are information placards along the trail. Much of the battlefield is now a residential area. We visited this location in 2006 and took the tour.
Big fans of our National Parks and the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania parks do not disappoint. The park was clean, friendly staff, and history rich. We were extremely happy to pay homage to the sacrifices made here and learn for a better future.
The physical facility is well maintained and the staff very friendly and helpful. A 600yd walking tour includes a number of significant locations of the battle. Very convenient. The signage around the facility is extremely helpful to a visitor unfamiliar with Fredericksburg. But the Ranger staff are the real gems here.
