Confirmed from Freedom Falls' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Freedom Falls
“It's not the largest nor most beautiful waterfall, but it is easily accessible (about 100 feet from the road), making it a fun spot to be able to hang out for a while.”
“It has that quiet, low-traffic feel where you can actually take your time and enjoy it without it feeling crowded or overly developed.”
A nice hike after a good rain on a brisk day. The flow of the falls changes depending on how much it rained recently. The drive is set back on country roads and takes a minute to get to. Also within this hike along the base of Freedom Falls is an old iron furnace.
What a gorgeous spot to check out! The waterfall is absolutely breathtaking! I didn’t realize at the time, but many people are reporting that you can swim at the falls. It was great area to hike, but the parking is on the limited side.
Beautiful and remote location, the walk down is quite uneven so I definitely recommend a walking stick for those with even slight gait issues. That being said, it is absolutely worth the climb down and back, you will not regret it!!
Paths to get down to the falls are a bit challenging for older knees & hips, especially on a wet day. But recent rains made the spring flow over the falls a sight to see. Heard its flow is good mid-summer but crystal clear.
Trail conditions & character
“It's not the largest nor most beautiful waterfall, but it is easily accessible (about 100 feet from the road), making it a fun spot to be able to hang out for a while.”
“These trails may involve some elevation changes, but not as steep or challenging as strenuous or difficult trails.”
“It has that quiet, low-traffic feel where you can actually take your time and enjoy it without it feeling crowded or overly developed.”
“Limited parking on a narrow country road, you would park here to see the Rockland Furnace as well”
“The roads to get there are dirt/gravel and there are some switchbacks with potholes if you are coming from Emlinton/Foxburg.”
“They also may include some obstacles, such as rocks or roots, but not to the point where they are overly difficult to navigate.”
