Confirmed from Fruita Paleo Loop Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What a beautiful place to get in a little hike, take in the scenery. Saw many blooming cactus here as well as many Collared lizards.

★★★★★ — Daniella , Jun 2019

Alot of trails and different paths to explore, easy to loose track of time. Beautiful scenery!

★★★★☆ — Cristine , Jan 2025

Well-maintained and clean trail, with dogs allowed off leash to enjoy it fully. I was passing through Fruita and looking for a place to hike with my dog so we could both stretch our legs before getting back in the car—and this was perfect.

★★★★★ — Megan , Jan 2026

Nice area, easy to walk trail, and plenty of plaques with nice geological information about how the land formed. However, the maps are quite outdated, and there are a lot of trails that seem to kind of spider web the area, and there's a trail that is more prominent than the paleo loop, so easy to get confused.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
