Confirmed from Gorge Loop's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Gorge Loop
“Beautiful views, wear proper fitted shoes the trail is not paved.”
Fantastic mini hike, one boardwalk, 3 mini bridges including a suspension bridge. Beautiful views, wear proper fitted shoes the trail is not paved. Be mindful there are a couple good hills with 20% grade or better (narrow path) if more than one hiker allow a pass zone if possible. Trail is clearly marked.
Great new trail to get you close to the gorge. Steps out and back get you there.
The Gorge Loop is beautiful with gorgeous views and well maintained trails that really put on a great display of the rocks, creeks, and sounding forest and is a perfect spot on a Sunday.
Excellent short hike down to the giant rocks on the river. A very well-done natural stone stairway takes you down and back up. You can walk around on the big boulders as well.

“The Gorge Loop is only about a 1/2 mile but can join up with the deer lick cave, buckeye, salamander, and hemlock Loop back to the parking lot and that's a little over 4 miles.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
