Confirmed from Helen Putnam Regional Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 14 mentions

“To the beautiful people of Sonoma County and visitors abroad this 216 acre regional park is worth the short exercise and sightseeing!”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Once you reach the top you’re at the Overlook Point view which contains a couple of benches and picnic table next to a big and shady tree.”

👟 good for all levels 6 mentions

“It was a easy beginner friendly trail and it gradually elevates but it's still fun and a beautiful walk!”

It's small, but the trails and views have enough variety to keep you interested the whole hike. It's an excellent back yard for the Petaluma community. Mountain Biking and Equestrian use make this a definite on leash experience for dogs.

The first and only time I have visited Helen Putnam Regional Park was over the winter season. It was a spontaneous and accidental finding. As I was trying to share the beauty within Sonoma county to my friends I ended up finding an unexpected treasure of nature.

Great open area for hiking and walking, some of the hillsides can be a little steep; I recommend starting at the entrance on the right. There are some wonderful views of the surrounding area. Everything was a little dry but that's to be expected at this time of year.

First time here. What a beautiful park. Plenty of trails for all levels of hiking. It has bathrooms and is dog friendly. If you do the outer loop there is some killer views of Petaluma and the surrounding mountains. I parked in the parking lot. There is a $7 fee to park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
