Confirmed from Highland Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Family-friendly park featuring trails for hiking, walking and running.
What runners say about Highland Park
“The trail is wide, well-maintained, and the majority of it is flat, so it could be stroller friendly if your stroller can go over leaves, dirt, and the occasional rock or root.”
“It's a beautiful place to have so close to home, and I look forward to continuing to explore the trails.”
“Very dog friendly with well-kept trails suitable to all levels of experience”

Highland Park is a quick way to get to Sachem's head. This wood platform is accessible from a trail running south of the cliff. The trail is very easy and will bring you right to the top. The view on top is great. You'll mostly he looking south and west and Deerfield and Greenfield. Very easy for children and dogs.
Great place to park and walk or hike the multiple trails and the pond is great to watch the wildlife
There was columbine and vinca in bloom. The trails were wonderfully clear and just challenging enough for us. We appreciated the label on the slippery elm. Our dog loved shade on the hot day and mud to soothe her feet. All good.
We like going here, close to our home in Greenfield, nice wide paths. No really vigorous hikes just nice walking in the woods though you can find a couple of more strenuous hikes if you look for them.
Trail conditions & character
“It's a great place to go hiking with friends or by yourself, also a great place to take the dog, lots of trails of various difficulties.”

Plan your run at Highland Park
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
