Confirmed from Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

North side trail is short, a little steep, but easy. Kids can do it too. Ample parking to drive up as well. Great views of the valley, small observation tower, picnic tables, bathrooms etc.

Mount Sugarloaf is a a great hiking area with a variety of paths, from steep to moderate, and a paved road to the top. It's centrally located in the Pioneer Valley in the town of Deerfield. The steep path has a few heart-pounding spots with narrow footing and steep drop offs.

Mt. Sugarloaf St. Reservation is a great place to hike or take the drive up the southern peak. There is also a northern peak with hiking trails. I have hiked both mountains numerous times and both have great views.

This is my favorite hike to see the fall foliage of the pioneer valley. I grew up in this area and went to umass so it is an annual tradition. Well maintained trails and roads

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“It's 5 dollars and it's worth it the view alone is amazing and we were celebrating with our brothers and sisters(church family)”
