Confirmed from Hovander Homestead Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Beautiful Park for All Ages! Hovander Homestead Park is one of my favorite places to spend a relaxing day. The historic farmhouse, beautiful gardens, and open fields make it feel like you’re stepping back in time. It’s perfect for family picnics, walking trails, and seeing farm animals up close.

Family fun & adventure in Ferndale. Love the park year round convenient river access for dogs to swim. There is a large off leash area to play & sniff & meet other dogs to play & have fun while you’re also able to walk alongside your pet in the picturesque landscape of Hovander boat launch park.

★★★★★ — Dawn , Nov 2025

Great place to take kids on a nice or cloudy day. Has long trails, play ground, lots of picnic benches that are clumped and spread out. Also has some animals to look at (not pet) like chickens, geese, bunnies and sometimes cows.

★★★★★ — Jahnel , Jun 2018

Wide-open park with ample trees and grass near the Nooksack River, with lots of history to uncover. Great quiet place to listen to the birds and bring your dog for a walk. Within walking distance of the Tennant Lake Fragrance Garden too, which is also worth checking out.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
