Confirmed from Howell Wetlands' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Very nice trails with a lot of wooden walkways over the water. A good place to walk your dogs and a fun walk for kids and adults with lots of pretty scenery.

Howell Wetlands is one of those special places that feels like a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. I’ve visited at different times of the day, but sunset is absolutely magical here. The golden light filters through the trees, reflects off the water, and brings the whole place to life.

Walking paths are boardwalk for the most part that wind through the wetlands, no maps so it’s up to you how far you want to venture on the trails. Beautiful views and surprisingly peaceful.

★★★★☆ — Sarah , Oct 2024

Our family loves Howell wetlands. I sometimes have a hard time with uneven terrain but the boardwalks are easy to traverse and there are benches on occasion to rest. There is a bit of a walk down a path before you get to the boardwalk but it's not terribly difficult.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
