Confirmed from James Martin Trail Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Very clean, good place to observe some wildlife, most of the other visitors were respectful of the area as well. Wonderful place to walk my dog, he loved all the different smells and meeting people on the trail.

Great place to run or walk. Lots of wildlife here. I went during the night time the other day & there arent any lights, but it was still cool.

★★★★☆ — Angel , Sep 2019

Very nice walking trail by the Coosa river behind the Gadsden Mall. Just be careful not to walk up on a goose nest, they can be real buts.

★★★★★ — Jeff , Jun 2022

Very scenic and great place to walk and explore. Enjoy having the dog park to take my dog too.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
