Confirmed from Joe Wheeler State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

It really is beautiful. We took several hikes on the well-groomed trails. The view from our amply-sized room was peaceful on the nice big balcony. The desk staff was friendly. The lodge was undergoing some much-needed renovations in the rooms.

Great place to bring family. Very peaceful and relaxing. Walking trails are awesome. Well worth checking out. They have cabins you can rent by the water. They also have hotel rooms that are nice and clean with a swimming pool. Basketball courts, tennis courts, golf course, camp grounds, etc...

Really nice start park. Park naturalist Jennings is very enthusiastic, and does boat tours, fishing trips, bird walks etc. We saw two bald eagle nests on his tours. We also saw deer, and various birds. Unfortunately we didn't see any river otters.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
