Confirmed from Key Wallace Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Key Wallace Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (27 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Beautiful location with a particularly wondrous quality. This place felt so still and yet lively at the same time. Branches would snap in the distance, whirlwinds rustled the leaves, and the stillness of it all would be broken by beautiful bird calls. Plenty of spiders so if that's not your thing, be warned!

★★★★★ — Armando , Sep 2019

Easy mostly flat hiking trail through the woods. You'll see some vernal ponds too. I stumbled across frogs, small birds, an eastern box turtle (first time seeing one), mushrooms, and lots of mosquitoes. They completely destroyed my arms even though I was wearing big repellent. Beware: wear a long sleeve shirt!!

★★★★★ — Tom , Sep 2020

The forests here are somewhat unusual compared to central and western Maryland. Even in the last days of September, we were eaten alive by mosquitoes and that was with bug spray. Made it difficult to enjoy the trail, but it's wetlands, so it's to be expected.

Nice hike. But VERY BUGGY yesterday. We had to turn back because of all the bugs. Fall and cooler weather would be a better time to hike there.
