Confirmed from Funderburg Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Funderburg Forest Preserve
“It used to contain a large amount of cornfield, and now it is gorgeous place that flourishes with varied life in the spring, summer, and autumn.”
It's like I went to heaven. This is the best walking/hiking park around. We stumbled on this thinking it was a rest stop, we got ourselves lost the first time and walked five miles, on the second visit we took a photo of the map and walked another five miles.
In just a handful of years, the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County have changed this land for the better. It used to contain a large amount of cornfield, and now it is gorgeous place that flourishes with varied life in the spring, summer, and autumn.
This is a great place to get some fresh air and exercise with a hike. It's large enough that you shouldn't get bored with the same trail. Some trails have a bench to sit and take a moment to enjoy the view or to catch your breath. There is a port-o-pottie at the entrance. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash.
Over 800 acres of trails so be sure to give yourself some time. You'll need it if you get lost like I did. I got 8 miles in that day. Lol Great forest preserve with lots of history.
