Confirmed from Kurtz Woods State Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Kurtz Woods State Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (30 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful example of undisturbed woodlands in southeast Wisconsin, great hiking trails right outside of Saukville!”

Great spot for its size! (45 acres). The hiking trail takes about 35 minutes at a leisurely pace. There are wonderful rolling kettle moraines that aren’t really obvious from the pictures. Worth a visit. -1 star for unfortunate amount of suburban lawn care noise.

★★★★☆ — Tim , May 2020

Small but sweet old growth forest with beautiful spring wildflowers featuring glacial moraines and kettles. Nice trails wind through the property.

★★★★★ — Ann , Apr 2021

Nice trail but definitely not after the leaves have fallen. I walked it yesterday and it was hard to follow the trail with the leaves. Hard to see any rocks or tree branches in the way. Plus in a couple of spots, large trees were down across the path.

★★★★☆ — Connie , Nov 2022

Great little plot of land. The outer loop was 1.05ish miles and spit us out about a block from our car. It reminds me of an inter urban trail surrounded by houses but everything was very quiet. The snow left us with a clear trail so I don’t know how well maintained the path is in the summer/fall.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
