Confirmed from LaPlatte River Nature Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about LaPlatte River Nature Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (89 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Super easy hiking for my littlest ones but beautiful views nonetheless.”

As long as you're prepared w your boot claws for the icy trails in winter, it's a lovely place to go. Beautiful scenes with every turn of the trail. Best before late summer when the goldenrod is over your head and tries to swallow you up, encroaching from both sides. In spring and early summer is amazing.

This is a beautiful place to walk around, even on a rainy day! I've been back a few times, it is a very very nice local place to explore! The main issue I had though was confusing and inconsistent trail maps and markings, making it difficult to figure out where you are in the park.

What a beautiful place that is so well maintained. From the curious ridged path to the river, to the wide mowed grassy way ringing two enchanting hay fields. Thank you everyone who took a part in creating and maintaining this treasure.

★★★★★ — Shane , Oct 2022

This is a nice place for a small hike or a good walk. The trails are in decent shape and bridges and boardwalks help to keep one's feet dry. I found that the trail signage could be improved,as some are illegible and degraded due to their age. Some additional signage would be helpful here and there also.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 8 mentions

“Didn't get to see the whole park by any means but my kiddos loved the creek and waterfall.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
