Confirmed from Lime Kiln Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Peaceful hiking area with a 3-mile loop trail featuring a creek, elevation, and rocky parts.

What runners say about Lime Kiln Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (116 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful ravines and a dappled, afternoon, forest floor.”

Fabulous hike on an early fall day. Parts of the hike are easy--the first and third quarter. The second quarter is moderate with more rocks in the trail and a decent, though not grueling, ascent. The last quarter has some rocky downhill, but it's not difficult. Beautiful ravines and a dappled, afternoon, forest floor.

Easy 3 mile loop hike took us 1.5 hours to finish. Elevation gain was 446ft. Don’t forget to visit the llamas and Alpacas in the nearby house.

★★★★★ — Varsha , Jan 2023

It's moderate level trail with a nice elevation of 358 ft. The trail is steep at some places and there are lot of loose pebbles and stones. One needs to be careful when on elevating steep as these loose stones can make you slip.

First time on this trail. Very beautiful and peaceful! A previous reviewer recommended starting off by going to the left and doing the loop clockwise. Very glad I did that coming the other way you would have a steep, bare rock descent. Much better to go up that section.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

⛰️ Hills / elevation 10 mentions

“2 mile earthen trail featuring rock formations, a steep climb, a rocky decent, a spring crossing, and finishing with a walk along a spring fed creek.”

“This whole series of trails is nice because you could walk the entire area as one giant loop, almost never walking the same area twice.”

“The parking here is limited to approx 12 cars, the early you reach there is better to park the car.”

Flat & fast 3 mentions

“So, going clockwise it starts level along a creek, climbs steeply, flattens out along the top of the ridge, and then a manageable descent.”
