Confirmed from Little Platte Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Lake with a swimming area, a disc golf course and shelters, plus picnic tables.
What runners say about Little Platte Park
“Easy access for the handicap, private and clean.”
Great paved and non-paved trails for hiking that hug the shoreline of Smithville Lake. Never too crowded. Nicely maintained park. Has a big off leash dog park area.
Nice sized area with two different peninsulas with a big path and lots of room for seating, playing in the grass, and walking along the water. Definitely my favorite spot at the lake so far.
Can park for free at Little Platte South and walk to the beach area, or park at the beach area and play disc golf or hike 5 miles round trip to see some great lake views.
Trail conditions & character
“Has Frisbee golf course, shelter, benches, BBQ grills, and a restroom.”
“$7 day parking and $17 for vehicles with a trailer.”
“A group of 4 or so and their dogs kinda invaded/intruded on our party due to the proximity.”
“Great paved and non-paved trails for hiking that hug the shoreline of Smithville Lake.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
