Confirmed from Magney-Snively Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Picturesque location with hiking trails and overlooks of the St. Louis River and Bay.

What runners say about Magney-Snively Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (176 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 15 mentions

“Very picturesque with many photogenic areas and usually very quiet and serene.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Some areas marred by graffiti but by and large, a well-maintained area that's easy to get around for people of all ages.”

Great spot around the middle of the Superior hiking trail. Great hiking, biking, and backpacking spot with free overnight parking. Ely's peak is 0.9 miles away from the lot and is a very beautiful and exhausting trek.

★★★★★ — Alek , Jun 2020

Outstanding walking area. On trail or off trail, plenty to explore. Also connects with skyline parkway. But not by vehicle. High dirt trail leads to Ely peak tunnel. In fall with colors it is one of the best walks in the entire city.

Beautiful area to hike with your pup! I love that it is so close to home! I like that the trails are not super crowded and I can enjoy nature in peace. It’s not a super popular area, but I definitely enjoy it!!

Check out DWP Trail. Great view over Stewart Creek. Keep going down to the old Railroad tunnel. Recommend mountain biking, but you can hike it. Park a Grand Avenue Chalet.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
