Confirmed from Marys River Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Marys River Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (68 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“A beautiful natural area with one of the last surviving vernal pool (pools that dry up in the summer) wetlands in the Willamette Valley.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Absolutely peaceful and beautiful area for a nature walk!”

This is a lovely place for a walk. If you park near the east entrance there is a gravel parking lot and short road to bring you closer to the trail head. Because of the flooding, that parking lot and road are very washed out and inaccessible.

★★★★☆ — Shar , May 2019

A beautiful natural area with one of the last surviving vernal pool (pools that dry up in the summer) wetlands in the Willamette Valley. Every couple years there is a large bloom of a very rare native monkey flower which only exists in this ecosystem.

★★★★★ — Will , Jul 2021

This has been my favorite place to jog for years! Especially in the rain and fog!! 🥰 Something really majestic about the smokey grey mountains and trees in the distance across the large open fields!

★★★★★ — Ryan , Sep 2025

Absolutely peaceful and beautiful area for a nature walk! There's pretty flowers, frogs, little garden snakes and you can have a stroller if necessary with no struggle.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🪵 Boardwalk 11 mentions

“There is a loop around the park which takes you across both sections of the boardwalk and up next to the river, which takes about 25 minutes to traverse.”

🔁 Loop trail 2 mentions

“Its a nice short little walk, wish it was a loop, but given all the hurdles that had to be overcome to build the existing walkway, I'm happy that it's there at all.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
