Confirmed from Massapequa Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

This preserve is beautiful. It’s great for walking and especially biking. There are so many views and it’s a great way to connect to nature and clear your head. I would highly recommend anyone to come here but just know the mosquitoes are waiting for you.

I am French from Paris but come often to Massapequa for holidays as my mum in law lives here. One of my greatest pleasure is to take my bike and ride it in the preserve! It’s beautiful, peaceful, well maintained, organized and safe for bikes .

Great place to bird watch or go for a walk. You can stay on the loop around the pond or go for a long walk on the trail. The trail is paved and wide enough to walk with a friend. All types of wildlife can be found owls, birds and waterfowl.

★★★★★ — Joseph , Dec 2024

Hidden green space with walking and biking trails located just off Sunrise between Massapequa and Massapequa Park train stations. There's a small lot to park in. The bikeway follows the creek all the way up to Bethpage. There is also a walking trail that cuts through the woods.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
