Confirmed from McAllister Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about McAllister Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (4,939 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“The park is clean, well-maintained, and very peaceful.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Along with Memorial Park in Houston, this park is positively beautiful and will come back for sure.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“This park is a quiet oasis in the middle of the hustling bustling city.”

Well maintained, paved trails. You can go for miles without encountering another human on some days. Inner trails are well shaded. Playground area is clean with restrooms. Unfortunately some irresponsible dog owners tend to leave dog waste on the trails, so that's one negative. Ample parking available.

We love this park! There is a ton of options for outdoor activity. We regularly use the paved trails to ride bikes, but there are plenty of people walking too. Within the grounds there are at least two playground sets and numerous ball fields. Presently they are rebuilding a pump track for BMX riders.

This is definitely one of the best and busiest parks in San Antonio. There are tons of trails, some sports parks, and dog parks. These pictures were taken on the Perimeter Loop Trail. The entrance is from Jones Maltsberger and Money Tree. The views are beautiful and you will definitely see lots of deer and a few birds.

This is an amazing park for bike riding running hiking and a great dog park. There is a bmx track also. The bmx is pretty small but they are expanding it! It never seems crowded here and the deer are like pets

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 21 mentions

“It’s where everybody comes to exercise, walk their dogs, bike, stroll, hike, youth sports leagues, party pavilions.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
