This place was so different than any other Refuge I have been to in the Texas Hill Country, of course. The lake is huge! Lots of people fishing. Beautiful flowers, and the swamps and marshland are everywhere you look.
McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge is a peaceful, wild stretch of Texas coast and wetlands. It’s a great place to see birds, alligators, and other wildlife, especially if you enjoy photography or just quiet drives through nature.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great experience with hunting the WMA, was able to take my 2 boys and get them into a walk in area pretty easily. Suggest calling ahead to reserve if possible but if you can’t get the way early and they allow walk ins on a first come basis unlike Anahuac who I learned the hard way will turn…
Decent beach, especially if you're looking for a less populated area for a walk or fishing. The boardwalk is nice, but has previously endured hurricane damage.
