Confirmed from Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 9 mentions

“I've seen a decent amount of the west at this point, and I would easily say this is one of the most peaceful and serene forest.”

Beautiful national park that was a treat to drive through to take a break from the interstate. My grandfather and I didn't do much hiking, but I did take a chilly dip in one of the lakes. The visitor's center was very quaint and had coloring pages for kids and cute merch. Great views!

Beautiful hiking trails, lakes, mountains, flowers etc. I had an amazing experience backpacking for three days.

Beautiful area for a hike, drive and picnic. It was not crowded. Hiked for 4 hours and only saw a handful of people whole time. Peaceful, nature at it's best, wildflowers everywhere. Please be prepared for rapid weather changes. We got rain and pea size hail for 20 min when up above 9000 feet.

It is such a beautiful place. There are so many trial heads. There’s a nice paved easy trail near Mirror Lake with a breathtaking view. There are a couple do trail heads near Lewis Lake if you want some moderate hikes. Check the weather as it was very chilly when I was there with my doggy.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
