Confirmed from Mount Jefferson State Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“I felt safe hiking the trail from the office to the summit and found the trail to be a very enjoyable hike Clean bathrooms and a picnic area is a the top.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 17 mentions

“There are several trails at the top and throughout the mountain that offer some great views and opportunities to get away from a crowd even on a busy day!”

We went up here Saturday night to see the sunset while we were still in town and it was a very beautiful overlook. We just stayed in the parking area, but there is also a trail you can hike to another overlook.

I am so glad we made the drive to this park from Blowing Rock. West Jefferson had lots of great shops and restaurants in a picturesque downtown and we capped off the day with some hiking here. The views were wonderful and the hikes were perfect for a family but not too easy.

One of the best parks in the state. Absolutely gorgeous views of the valley from multiple vantage points in the park. The trails are quiet and it’s fairly easy to get to the best views in the park. Cannot recommend enough to visit if you happen to be in the area!

What a beautiful, preserved state park. I visited Mount Jefferson in Feb 2020. These are a few selected photos from the park then. A rare spotting of a unicorn can be found sometimes!! Various short, moderate to mild hiking trails good for beginners an intermediate level hikers. Air is very fresh up here.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 42 mentions

“Luther Rock is a good place for views, I wish my wife and I could have made it to the trail that goes through a virgin forest, but we had to cut our day short because of rain.”
