Confirmed from Mount Olympus Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiker's favorite, the steep trail leads to a summit with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains; also popular at sunset.
What runners say about Mount Olympus Trailhead
“Along the way, you will get some great views of the Salt Lake Valley and the surrounding mountains.”
“For sure leave early, at least by 5am, or you’ll be cooking and hating your life, because there is no shade on the way back down.”
Mount Olympus has been on the top of my bucket list for a while. ⛰🥾✨I’ve done other previous hikes to try to prepare for the ~8 miles hike with 4,200 ft elevation gain. I’m glad I did! We started at 8 am in the morning and the incline started from the first mile.
Great views are worth the climb. This hike has an intense elevation climb over a relatively short distance. To get to the peak requires scrambling over some boulders at the end. Started at 6 am and was happy to beat the heat. Plenty of parking (free parking) was available at the trailhead.
If you want a fairly difficult challenge, try this awesome trail to the summit of Mount Olympus! I am not in perfect shape, so it was tough but rewarding. 😅 It took me a little under three hours to reach the summit, and probably about two hours to return to the trailhead.
The hike was hard and rewarding. Absolutely worth it. Difficulty: moderate-hard ( it’s a solid moderate hike, until you pass the “saddle” area, and then it gets tough, because you need to physically climb- use your hands to go up the rock cliffs and then go down.
Trail conditions & character
“The hike is a 7 mile trek straight up the mountain, with switchbacks, river crossings (in the right season), a rock scramble near the top, with over 4,000ft of elevation gain!”
“If you love hiking, and you wanna take on some epic views of Salt Lake Valley, without hiking the taller peaks to the south, look no further than Mt.”
“😅 It took me a little under three hours to reach the summit, and probably about two hours to return to the trailhead.”
“For sure leave early, at least by 5am, or you’ll be cooking and hating your life, because there is no shade on the way back down.”
“There is a rocky scramble to the peak, so be prepared to clamber up some steep rocky slopes.”
“Only 7-8 miles total hike , but feels like eternity with 4,100ft elevation gain, pain level 9/10!”
