Confirmed from Mount Thom's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hike along this trail that leads to a ridge and offers vistas, as well as views of the city.
What runners say about Mount Thom
“Great hike that's close to Glendale with great views on a clear day.”
“There are no significant shady sections or places to sit along the way, and it probably would be best to avoid it when it's 100°F, speaking from experience.”
This can be a strenuous hike with a more or less continuous moderate to steep rise the whole way up. There are no significant shady sections or places to sit along the way, and it probably would be best to avoid it when it's 100°F, speaking from experience...
Not quite sure what’s this tower for. It seems not to provide many helps on my cell phone signals. You will begin to get a good view once you reach the ridge. From here, you will see lots of yellow flowers on the small hills. Try to challenge these hills and it is worth it.
What an amazing view of Los Angeles! The San Fernando Valley, Glendale, Silver Lake, and you can even see the ocean! Well worth the hike to get here!
The view at the top was amazing. On a clear day you can see the ocean. Bring your hiking boots, and walking stick (if you like using one). This hike is INTENSE but the view at the top is worth it.
Trail conditions & character
“At the top especially, and at several places along the trail, you'll be treated to spectacular views of the city, and maybe even a glorious sunset.”
“The great thing about this trail is that it is not very steep and it is long enough for a fat burning mode or a cardio, depending on your speed.”
“There are no significant shady sections or places to sit along the way, and it probably would be best to avoid it when it's 100°F, speaking from experience.”
“Residential street parking, so you may have to park quite a bit from the trail head, look for the job parking signs”
“One of our favorites in the area, its challenging with elevation but not technical.”
