Confirmed from Tongva Peak's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Steep, 2,656-ft peak with a viewpoint of the valley, plus challenging trails for hiking.

What runners say about Tongva Peak

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (74 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Really great views and a hike you can do after work, definitely recommend it.”

We went early enough to miss the crowds (started at 9am). Perfect amount of challenge for me, someone whose extent of exercise is a daily flat 2 mile walk. It was about 5.75 miles in about 2 hrs and 15 minutes, just walking. The elevation gain from the bottom to the top was about 1,340 ft in about an hour and 10 mins.

This hike has some steep patches along the way which made for a challenging night hike for me. It was worth it!

An Official Hiking Review: A hard hike only for experienced hikers. Three miles to Tongva Peak and three back. That being said, it’s amazing. This peak offers a breathtaking view of La Crescenta and Montrose. Would highly recommend!! We rate this trail extremely hard.

What a freak peak with yellow flowers sea along the ridge trail. Don’t summit through the bid drive way. It’s not worth it. Go up along the ridge and you will be amazed by those yellow flowers sea. Also, the view on the ridge is really incredible.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 13 mentions

“Most of the peak is occupied by some telecom equipment, but there is still a spot to sit and enjoy the views.”
