Confirmed from Nejedly Staging Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Nejedly Staging Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (57 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“If you drive further along Carquinez Scenic Road, there is a more gradual incline that will take you to the same trails.”

🏃 great for running 2 mentions

“Great views, good running when you up to the ridge loop, dogs can go off leash.”

Get up to the Franklin Ridge Trail via the Huell Hornbeck trail. I find that one easier on the knees than the CA Riding and Hiking Trail, which is the other option. Great views, good running when you up to the ridge loop, dogs can go off leash.

★★★★★ — Natalie , May 2022

Good place to get your fix for the outdoors. Trails can be steep and narrow at times. But great views from the top. Free to visit. Bring water and some good hiking shoes.

★★★★★ — Jaime , Nov 2019

Hills are mostly barren, but you can find shade in the forests on the way up and down. Usually cows and cow pies. But fewer people than in most EBRP's which makes it shine. There are picnic tables down in the staging area and several scenic outlooks off the main trail.

★★★★☆ — Jenny , Jun 2022

I liked it because it's a trail I hadn't taken before. Relatively warm because of the east facing topography blocking the wind. Great views! Found an apricot tree growing wild...30 footer! Crazy to think what this place would look like 100 years ago when John Muir was around. Must have been incredible.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
